Armenia is Under Serious Cyber Attack, Samvel Martirosyan
Media expert Samvel Martirosyan posted on his Facebook page that in recent days, several revelations by international organizations speak of Armenia being under serious cyber attacks orchestrated by state-level hacking groups.
He noted that the data is still somewhat limited. Google has discovered sophisticated attacks against targets in Armenia. Two zero-day vulnerabilities in Google Chrome were exploited, which, according to him, indicates that not only a very serious team was involved, but that this was also an expensive attack. The hackers used fake Armenian news sites, clones of real ones.
Google is confident that a state-backed hacking team was behind the attacks, although the country is not specified. However, he believes the number of interested and capable countries can be counted on one hand.
The next incident involves the Israeli company Candiru, which until now was relatively unknown. For example, a fake version of the Armenpress website was used to infect the victims.
Lastly, the revelations concerning the Israeli NSO Group, which sells its spyware known as Pegasus to various security agencies around the world, have also surfaced. Widespread applications of Pegasus have been uncovered, with Azerbaijani authorities being one of the users, employing it against those with opposition views. However, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that during the war, Pegasus was used by Azerbaijan against Armenia, targeting important individuals linked to the government and military.
