Germany Declares State of Emergency and Military Disaster Mode Due to Floods and Landslides in the West
The death toll from the devastating floods in Germany has reached 156. A state of emergency and military disaster mode has been declared in the Upper Bavaria administrative district due to the floods and landslides. 850 soldiers are participating in the efforts to neutralize the consequences of the disaster. The flooding has reached the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, cutting off railway connections with several localities.
As reported by Bild and Swissinfo, the flooding in western Germany began following heavy rainfall on the night of July 14. The disaster has led to the destruction of bridges and roads, and electrical lines have been completely out of service.
