For nearly a week, heavy downpours have continued in Western and Southwestern Germany, causing devastating flooding. The Moselle tributaries of the Rhine have overflowed their banks due to the torrential rains.
The death toll from the catastrophic flooding in Western Germany has surpassed 130, with 618 individuals suffering various injuries. In Belgium, at least 20 people have died due to the floods. There are concerns that the casualty figures may not be final, reports Deutsche Welle.
Rescue and recovery efforts, as well as the restoration of damaged infrastructure, are ongoing in the disaster zone, with numerous volunteers also participating in these efforts.
The damage caused by the disaster has not yet been assessed. The flooding has destroyed buildings, roads, bridges, railways, and has affected farms. Some areas have been left without electricity and lack drinking water.
