US State Department on the Nagorno-Karabakh Issue

The US State Department has expressed its support for the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, emphasizing that the US backs the Minsk Group's process and is committed to helping the parties achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict based on the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, including non-use of force or threat of force, territorial integrity, equal rights, and the self-determination of peoples.

This statement was made by the US State Department in response to questions from the Armenian service of Voice of America.

Referring to the recent meeting in Washington between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, where the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process was discussed, the State Department pointed to information released by the French side, indicating that during the meeting between the heads of the diplomatic departments of France and the US, the parties, as co-chairs of the Minsk Group, discussed joint actions that would help achieve sustainable peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"We are deeply concerned about the impact of the resumption of conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan last autumn and are acutely aware of the humanitarian needs present in the region," the State Department noted.

The Armenian service of Voice of America also inquired about the visit of a group of ambassadors and diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan to territories in Nagorno-Karabakh recently under Azerbaijani control. The State Department remarked that it does not comment on details related to the ambassador's schedule. Additionally, the State Department did not comment on the schedules of the ambassadors of France or Russia.
