Why the Chamber Theater Actors' Protest Was Canceled: They Did Not Gather in Front of the Ministry of Education and Science

The actors and staff of the Yerevan State Chamber Music Theater were scheduled to hold a protest today at 11:00 AM. They announced that all interested parties were invited to gather in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia. However, the protest did not take place as planned. Neither at the scheduled time nor afterward did the Chamber Theater representatives converge there.

Recall that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports is developing a project that proposes to merge the State Chamber Music Theater with the Hakob Paronyan Musical Comedy State Theater. According to this plan, the Chamber Theater building is also to be allocated to the Armenian Symphony Orchestra, thereby resolving the issue of venues for that musical collective.

The Armenian Time inquired from the theater staff about the last-minute cancellation of the protest. Actress Aelita Gevorgyan stated that the theater's management deemed it a wiser decision to wait a bit longer. She also mentioned that they plan to send a direct letter to the Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today. If the issue is not resolved after addressing Pashinyan, they will consider taking further steps.

The actress added that they are determined to prove to the decision-making authorities that attempting to close down the Chamber Theater is a grave mistake.
