What is the NSS Doing While the Enemy is Within Armenia?
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" writes: For two months now, the enemy has penetrated deep into Armenia's borders, raising the question of what Armenia's top security agency, the National Security Service (NSS), is occupied with.
Investigating the NSS's official website, "Zhoghovurd" noticed that the NSS seems to be focused on almost everything except border security issues. For instance, on the official website, we can find information about uncovering a particularly large-scale fraud case via the Facebook social network, incidents of receiving bribes in the education sector, cases of illegal drug trafficking, and so on—all without any announcements regarding border safety, national security, or the exposure of spies, which are critical to the country's security situation.
So, what functions does the National Security Service have? It is supposed to gather, process, and analyze information about threats to the security of the Republic of Armenia, as well as predict these threats. In other words, maintaining Armenia's security should be one of this agency's top priorities; however, following their official announcements gives the impression that it operates more like a police unit.
