Long-Awaited Good News in the Fight Against License Plate Thefts
The Government is seeking to address the issue of vehicle license plate thefts. Today, the Cabinet discussed and approved a draft law pertaining to this matter.
Police Chief Vahe Ghazaryan recalled that under the current regulations, if both license plates of a vehicle are lost, the owner loses the chance to recover them. It is this regulation that has allowed some individuals to seize license plates and extort money from their owners.
Following the amendment, in cases of losing both plates, the user will be entitled to receive a duplicate of the license plates for a state fee of 12,000 drams, aligned with the new registration process and featuring Arabic numerals. This decision will come into effect three months after its official publication.
