Eric Aleksanyan, Lawyer of Arush Arushanyan, Issues Statement
Eric Aleksanyan, lawyer of Arush Arushanyan, has issued a statement: “On July 14, 2021, the mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, was notified to appear before the Central Electoral Commission for a discussion regarding the application submitted by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia. We do not wish to appear at the Central Electoral Commission on July 15 at 10:00 AM alongside Arush Arushanyan for this session, as we believe the decision regarding this matter has already been predetermined, and we do not want to simply participate in a formal procedure.
At the same time, we declare that Arush Arushanyan will duly appear before the investigator for any summons issued by the prosecuting authority. Dear colleagues, we are not dealing with a legal process here; this is exclusively political persecution, and therefore we do not consider it appropriate to participate in such formal processes. This is a process where, in reality, our voices will not be heard substantively. The legal system in the Republic of Armenia has died.”
