Aliyev Opens a New, Highly Dangerous Topic Discussing Yerevan, Zangezur, and Lake Sevan as 'Historical Azerbaijan'

Aliyev has long been chattering about Zangezur, Lake Sevan, and Yerevan being 'Azerbaijani'. Previously, his outbursts were dismissed because the surrounding region of Artsakh firmly blocked any Azerbaijani ambitions of spreading into Armenia. This was stated by former Deputy Minister of Defense Artak Zakaryan on his Facebook page.

He specifically noted: 'Furthermore, the former authorities of Armenia and Artsakh were not mere pawns or treasonous capitulators, but wise, far-sighted patriots despite their shortcomings. During their time, Azerbaijan would not have had a chance to threaten Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity through political, diplomatic, or military means.'

After the state-destroying coup in 2018, Aliyev received carte blanche and a new opportunity. Turkey, which had previously refrained from interfering in the Azerbaijan-Artsakh conflict, also took advantage of the post-revolutionary chaos in Armenia by joining Baku’s adventures. Thus, Nikol opened Turkey's gateway to the South Caucasus.

As a result of Nikol's incompetence, the treacherous war unleashed and the disgraceful capitulation took place, and now Aliyev is opening a new, highly dangerous topic. By speaking of Yerevan, Zangezur, and Lake Sevan as 'historical Azerbaijan' and presenting some false maps, he attempts to cultivate a new conflict. In this way, Azerbaijan, formed from a Caucasian Tatar group, finds a chance to justify its claims in this region.

I would not be surprised if soon Aliyev begins convincing the world that we Armenians are newcomers and have illegally seized 'historical Azerbaijani territories', and then, with the help of the Russians, established the state of Armenia here. I doubt that Nikolism will oppose this process because it does not particularly concern itself with the fact that Armenia's sovereign territories are already occupied by Azerbaijani armed forces.

In 2018, by bringing Nikolism to power, the Armenian people allowed an unknowing and very gross historical mistake. This mistake became fatal for Artsakh and the Armenian Army. This mistake will become a heavy burden on future generations.

In 2021, by giving power to the capitulators again, the Armenian people acted on their conscious mistake. This mistake is already becoming fatal for Armenia. With this conscious error, the Armenian people displayed their woeful condition to the world and the political idiocy bordering on dementia.

Aliyev certainly makes a mistake when discussing Zangezur, Lake Sevan, and Yerevan. But a part of our people must finally understand that re-electing Nikol would also be an unforgivable 'mistake' that will lead to impending national tragedies. Unlike us Armenians, the Turks do not make the same mistake a second time regarding such matters. We must correct our mistakes. Furthermore, we must do so without Nikolism. Otherwise, it will result in a catastrophe after Nikol, even if it seems distant.

We must wake up because the future danger is increasingly evident. Georgia has not had ethnic conflicts with Turks and Azerbaijanis, yet they are well aware of their statehood role and national interest. Meanwhile, we have lost the most elementary instincts of self-defense and national self-respect. And with this mindset, we want to make friends with the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggressive audacity. In a short time, Armenia will be trampled upon. We must grow stronger, recover, and restore ourselves. Then we can think about ways of friendship with the enemy.
