Pregnant Woman in Severe Condition Due to COVID-19 Gives Birth Successfully

A newborn girl has been delivered at the Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center by Anush Nersisyan, who recovered after being in extremely severe condition due to COVID-19 for 40 days since April. According to Karen Tonoyan, head of the emergency department of the medical center, Anush was admitted on April 21 at 29 weeks of pregnancy with severe bilateral pneumonia.

Her condition worsened over the course of a week. After spending a month in the intensive care unit and being connected to a ventilator, medical professionals were able to save Anush's life through continuous specialized discussions and efforts. After being transferred from the intensive care unit to the 8th infectious diseases ward, she was completely discharged after 9 days of recovery.

During the final weeks of her pregnancy, Anush was under the supervision of Inga Avanesyan, the senior gynecologist-obstetrician at the Surb Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center's maternity ward, and head of the gynecological service of the COVID-19 clinic.

Anush recalled, "COVID-19 was hell for me; I didn’t think I would survive it. I lost track of days and was struggling to breathe. I was more concerned about my little one left at home and the baby who was about to be born than my own life. No words can express my gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and midwives; what they did was a miracle."

Anush's child was born at 40 weeks via cesarean section, and both mother and daughter were discharged healthy from the maternity hospital.
