The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has stated that "the entire Zangezur is their historical land, where they will return." According to minval.az, as reported by Tert.am, he made this announcement during a meeting with the families of Azerbaijani servicemen who died in the recent Artsakh war.

He recalled the creation of the "Economic Zone of Eastern Zangezur" under his decree, declaring that Eastern Zangezur is their historical land, and so is Western Zangezur.

"Now in Armenia, they say that Ilham Aliyev is making territorial claims. If there is Eastern Zangezur, then there is also Western Zangezur. Yes, Western Zangezur is the land of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers. I have said that we need to return and we are returning there... No one can stop us. We will certainly return, as there is no other option. Now, after opening all communications, of course, we will return, and the Azerbaijani population will return to their ancestral lands. In the trilateral statement of November 10, it is mentioned that all refugees should return to their homeland. Our homeland is Zangezur, our homeland is Goycha (Sevan), Yerevan (Yerevan). We will certainly return," said Aliyev.
