Baku Attempts to Create New Hotspots of Tension; All Consequences to Be Borne by Azerbaijani Authorities: Armenian Foreign Ministry

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement.

“On July 14, the Azerbaijani armed forces initiated a provocative advance near the town of Yeraskh in the Republic of Armenia, resulting in the death of contract serviceman Samvel Alaverdyan due to sniper fire. We extend our deepest condolences and support to the family and relatives of the fallen serviceman.

These provocative actions following the incursion of Azerbaijani armed units into the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia—specifically the regions of Syunik and Gegharkunik—clearly demonstrate that official Baku is attempting to create new hotspots of tension, undermining regional peace and security.

We strongly condemn this assault against the Republic of Armenia, which constitutes a gross violation of fundamental principles of international law. Such actions by Azerbaijan's military-political leadership could lead to further escalation of the situation, and all consequences will be the responsibility of the Azerbaijani authorities,” the statement read.
