Ukrainian Interior Minister of Armenian Descent Arsen Avakov Resigns

Ukrainian Interior Minister of Armenian descent Arsen Avakov has submitted his resignation. This was reported by the news agency korrespondent.net.

The Verkhovna Rada is set to discuss the resignation request on July 15. Avakov is currently in the Rivne region, where large-scale exercises of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are taking place. This information has been confirmed by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

“According to the first part of Article 18 of the Law of Ukraine on the Cabinet of Ministers, I have submitted a request for my release from the position of Interior Minister. I thank the team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for years of collaboration. I thank each officer, private, and civil servant. It is an honor,” the press service quotes Avakov.

Avakov has held the position of Ukraine's Interior Minister since 2014.
