Motion Filed for the Arrest of Former Meghri Mayor Mikitar Zakaryan

The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction is currently reviewing a motion for the arrest of former Meghri mayor Mikitar Zakaryan. This was announced by his lawyer, Yerem Sargsyan, during a conversation with reporters.

“Zakaryan was apprehended by law enforcement during a show operation. Last night at midnight, when he arrived in Yerevan to present himself to the investigator at the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation, masked individuals with firearms threw him to the asphalt, filmed him, and only then took him into custody,” the lawyer reported.

It is noteworthy that Mikitar Zakaryan has been charged with two counts: abuse of official powers and including false information in official documents. According to the charges, he hid the fact that he possessed citizenship of another country.
