Residents of Shvanidzor and Nrnadzor Hold Protest Against Water Shortage
In the villages of Megrit's Alvank, Shvanidzor, and Nrnadzor, local farmers organized a protest. They are demanding the provision of irrigation water, stating that they have been without it for 20 days.
The head of the Syunik Water Supply Company assured the gathered protesters that they would have water by July 11. However, the protesters promised that if they remained without water, they would block the interstate highway.
One participant in the protest remarked, “Alik Hovhannisyan’s lands are floating in the ocean, while the people who live under these stones are not living but merely surviving with a handful of soil that feeds their children. Those lands are being dried up by the orders of Alik Hovhannisyan; this is the order that the Megrit Corridor must be opened. They want to open the Megrit Corridor, which means the easiest way to dry up people's lands so that the farmers quickly leave, and they can hand this area over to Turkey.”
