Two More Women in Isaacyan Village Found to Have Anthrax

In Isaacyan village of Shirak Province, two more women have been found to have anthrax. They displayed symptoms earlier, but after hiding them, they sought medical help when the wounds had worsened. This was reported to Armenpress by Astghik Beybutyan, the director of the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Gyumri.

“Currently, 8 patients are receiving treatment with the same symptoms in the hospital. 2 patients who had previously sought treatment have already been discharged, while the others are expected to be discharged in the coming days. The situation is relatively more complicated for the two newly admitted women. Their symptoms appeared earlier, but they concealed them. The condition of the patients is assessed as moderate severity. They have rather deep wounds. Home treatment was performed, which they thought might help, but when the wound became larger, they got scared and came to us. If they had come to us sooner, treatment would have been easier and faster,” said Astghik Beybutyan, advising residents against self-treatment as care can only be administered in a hospital setting.

The women had purchased meat from a neighbor and were infected while preparing it. On June 30 and July 1, 7 residents from Isaacyan village were transferred to the Gyumri Infectious Diseases Hospital with preliminary diagnoses of anthrax. Another patient was admitted to the hospital with the same diagnosis on July 4. Two patients have already been discharged from the hospital.
