Investigative Committee Reveals Circumstances of Young Man's Severe Gunshot Injuries
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has completed the preliminary investigation into the criminal case concerning the intentional infliction of serious injury to a 27-year-old man.
The Committee’s Information and Public Relations Division reported that the investigation established and documented that on March 9, 2020, around 16:00, a conflict occurred in a park adjacent to the Sayat-Nova Square in Alaverdi between a 27-year-old local resident and a young man born in 1993, who lives in Yerevan. During the altercation, the latter, intending to cause bodily harm, fired at the Alaverdi resident using a 9mm caliber Makarov-type pistol that he had illegally obtained and possessed, inflicting severe injuries and fleeing the scene.
During the investigation, law enforcement discovered the firearm used in the crime and four cartridges, which were stored in a hideout near the park. Based on a sufficient combination of evidence obtained during the pre-trial proceedings, the young man from Yerevan has been charged under Article 112, Part 1, and Article 235, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. He has been placed under arrest as a measure of restraint.
The investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been sent to the supervising prosecutor with a motion for confirmation of the accusatory conclusion and forwarding to the court.
