Response of CSTO to Tajikistan

Response of CSTO to Tajikistan

Tajikistan requires technical support; however, there is no need for the engagement of CSTO collective forces to carry out defense along the border with Afghanistan. As reported by Armenpress, this was stated by the head of the CSTO unified staff, Anatoly Sidorov, in an interview with RT.

“From what we have seen here and having interacted with the top officials and leaders of law enforcement agencies, we have concluded that currently there is no need to reinforce forces from other CSTO member states,” he said.

According to him, there are certain difficulties, and it will likely be necessary to provide material and technical assistance. The Taliban movement has set up checkpoints at the state border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Sidorov informed that aggressive actions from the northern regions of Afghanistan are currently not observed at all.

Earlier, Tajikistan requested assistance from member countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to address challenges coming from Afghanistan.
