Karahunj Community Leader Lusine Avetyan Detained
The administrative head of the Karahunj community in Goris, Lusine Avetyan, has been detained. The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, under the presidency of Judge Karen Farakhoyan, has granted the request of the Special Investigative Service (SIS) to select detention as a measure of restraint against Avetyan. This information was provided to Tert.am by the SIS.
It is noteworthy that Lusine Avetyan was arrested on July 5, around 16:24, on the grounds of committing acts under articles 149, part 2, clauses 2 and 4, 149.1, part 2, clause 2, and 154.2, parts 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. An appeal against the detention decision has been lodged; however, before the court could review the lawfulness of Avetyan's arrest, the investigating body hastened to file charges against her and submitted a request to the court for her detention as a measure of restraint.
According to the SIS, Lusine Avetyan, by using the fact of providing 100,000-220,000 AMD to four residents of Karahunj through bank transfer in May 2021 under the guise of "Financial Support," forced them to participate in the election campaign organized by the "Armenia" alliance in Goris on June 8, 2021, in connection with the snap parliamentary elections. Furthermore, she obstructed their free exercise of voting rights by coercing them to participate in the elections and vote in favor of the mentioned alliance. Additionally, according to the SIS, Avetyan transferred 100,000 AMD to another resident of Karahunj by bank transfer on May 6, citing financial support due to social and health issues, and then presented the provided amount to the mentioned voter and her spouse as a bribe, compelling them to participate in the election campaign organized by the "Armenia" alliance in Goris on June 7, 2021, as well as to participate in these elections and vote for the "Armenia" coalition.
