Tajikistan Requests Assistance from CSTO Again
Tajikistan has requested assistance from the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to address the challenges posed by Afghanistan. This was announced by Tajikistan’s permanent representative to the CSTO, Hasan Sultanov.
"As the country sharing the longest border with Afghanistan, Tajikistan is taking all possible measures to maintain the situation and confront threats and challenges coming from that country. However, given the regional circumstances and the fact that certain sections of the border with Afghanistan are located in hard-to-reach mountainous areas, it becomes complicated to handle this issue alone," Sultanov said at a CSTO Permanent Council meeting.
He emphasized that the current conditions require an "adequate response within the CSTO framework, including measures to strengthen the capacity to protect southern borders."
"In this context, it remains relevant to ensure the implementation of the Collective Security Council's decision from September 23, 2013, on providing assistance to the Republic of Tajikistan in strengthening the Tajik-Afghan border. Therefore, we would like to urge the member states of the organization to contribute to the full realization of this document," Sultanov stated.
