In India, doctors have removed a massive hairball weighing 1.5 kg from the abdomen of a five-year-old girl, as reported by mirror.co.uk. The child had been continuously swallowing hair, a phenomenon known in medicine as Rapunzel Syndrome.
The girl was hospitalized due to abdominal pain, spasms, and loss of appetite. Upon examination, specialists discovered that the source of the pain was the enormous hairball.
The girl's parents admitted that their daughter had been eating hair for the past two and a half years. They had to cut her hair, but she began to consume the hair of others.
The report indicates that a team of five doctors was able to remove the hairball from her abdomen after a one-hour surgery. According to the doctors, this syndrome is often found in individuals with mental disorders, while it is quite rare among children.
