US Welcomes Azerbaijan's Return of Armenian Prisoners and Armenia's Efforts to Facilitate De-mining

The United States welcomes the release of 15 Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan on July 3 and their return to Armenia. This statement was made by the US embassy representation in Armenia.

America also commends Armenia's decision to provide information to Azerbaijan to facilitate humanitarian de-mining. These actions followed the release of Armenian prisoners by Azerbaijan on June 12 and Armenia's decision to provide information for humanitarian de-mining.

This initiative, supported by the United States and aided by Georgia, laid the groundwork for further cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The United States also appreciates Russia's efforts aimed at supporting regional stability.

The United States continues to call for the return of all prisoners and for the exchange of all necessary information to carry out effective de-mining in conflict areas. We are ready to support cooperation and the resolution of other outstanding issues in the region. We also continue to urge Armenia and Azerbaijan to restore meaningful negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group to discuss a comprehensive and sustainable political resolution of the conflict.
