Unknown User Defrauds Business Out of 811,144 Rubles
The Investigative Committee reports that a series of investigative actions conducted in the Shengavit administrative district of Armenia’s capital Yerevan have revealed that on December 17, 2020, an Armenian company entered into a contract with the Russian company "Южныи Полюс" through the website [email protected] to purchase vegetable oil. A prepayment was made as per the contract; however, upon not receiving the goods, the Armenian company discovered that the mentioned website is not the official site of the Russian vegetable oil manufacturer. As a result, an unknown user fraudulently obtained the equivalent of 811,144 rubles, amounting to 5,832,125 AMD, transferred by the Armenian company via international remittance, causing significant property damage.
“Considering the above, we ask for preventive and explanatory measures to be carried out among citizens through the internet, television, and other media to prevent becoming a new victim of fraud committed by the website posing as ‘Южныи Полюс’ through the email [email protected],” the statement reads.
