Stanislav Zas' Statements Give Basis for Azerbaijan to Incite Border Incident in Verin Shorja: Armen Grigoryan

Statements made by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) have significantly influenced the provocation organized by Azerbaijan in the Verin Shorja community of the Gegharkunik region, according to Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council. In an interview with Public Television, Grigoryan commented on the recent incident at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

“Our primary concern in Mr. Zas' (CSTO Secretary Stanislav Zas) interview was that non-constructive statements could negatively affect the peace resolution process and such statements give grounds for Azerbaijan to provoke incidents,” said Grigoryan.

He noted that the stability of the border is currently fragile. “Negotiations are underway with the Russian Federation regarding the deployment of border troops to prevent such incidents. We hope that in the near future, we will reach a situation where Russian border troops will be deployed in the areas where a crisis has emerged since May 12, allowing for demarcation and delimitation of the border,” Grigoryan stated.

According to him, some of the CSTO Secretary’s statements regarding the situation at the border do not correspond to reality.

Grigoryan also mentioned that efforts are being made to organize a visit by the CSTO Secretary to Armenia. In response to a question about the possibility of addressing the UN Security Council, Grigoryan said, “We will use all possible tools to resolve border disputes. All options remain open in our agenda. If the negotiations with the CSTO and the Russian Federation do not yield results, we will seek other solutions.”
