44-Year-Old Man Attempts to Strangle Retired Woman, Steals Earrings and Injures Hand with Knife

On July 5, at 12:15 PM, the police department in Martuni received a report from the ambulance service stating that a 90-year-old female resident of the village of Vaghashen had been assaulted. Her earrings were forcibly taken, causing lacerations to her earlobes.

The police report reveals that through operational intelligence and investigative measures, it was determined that around 12:00 PM, a 44-year-old resident of Vaghashen, wearing a hat and armed with a knife, entered the elderly woman's home. He attempted to strangle her by hitting her with his hands, subsequently ripped off her gold earrings and gold necklace, and injured her forearm with the knife before fleeing the scene.

Thanks to coordinated actions from the Gegharkunik Regional Police Department and the Martuni police station, the suspect was found and apprehended in the village of Vaghashen. During a personal search, a kitchen knife, identified as the tool of the crime, and a medical mask were confiscated from his pocket. The scene investigation uncovered the gold necklace and one earring.

A criminal case has been initiated under the 2nd part, 4th point of Article 175 of the RA Criminal Code. The 44-year-old man has been arrested and a forensic examination has been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
