What the organizers of the LGBT pride are planning is incompatible with our morality, says the Armenian Diocese of Georgia

In recent weeks, the events taking place in the capital of Georgia regarding the LGBT pride have raised concerns for the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church's diocese of Georgia. In this context, the diocese has issued a statement, which reads:

“For centuries, representatives of different religious beliefs have lived peacefully side by side in Georgia. Among the significant achievements of modern realistic life, a certain ideology has also emerged, which often crudely and unacceptably proposes to change values that have been created and preserved over the centuries, declaring abnormal phenomena as normal and making them acceptable:

The Armenian Diocese of Georgia expresses that for us, freedom is immensely important, and we respect the freedom of individual expression. However, when it comes to the so-called LGBT+ pride parade, we are dealing not with the aspect of expression but with the public promotion of a certain group's intimate life that is being imposed on others.

What the so-called 'Pride' organizers are planning is incompatible with our morality and contradicts the values formed through coexistence. The Armenian Diocese of Georgia opposes the attempts to recognize immorality as morality.

Furthermore, we would like to add that LGBT individuals in Georgia have never been subjected to persecution due to their lifestyle. These 'prides' are not aimed at protecting the rights of LGBT+ individuals but serve the financial interests of a small group of organizers. To achieve their goals, they do not shy away from creating an artificial crisis around this issue and provoking discord within society.

They separate and oppose these individuals to society, and with the harmful impact of such activities, pose a threat to future generations.

Therefore, we call on the authorities to prevent the so-called 'Pride' from taking place and urge international organizations and representatives of the diplomatic corps not to disappoint the people of Georgia in their hopes concerning Georgia's western alignment through their support of this event.”
