Vladimir Putin Promises Aid to Tajikistan Both Bilaterally and Within CSTO Framework
Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised assistance to Tajikistan in light of the escalating situation along the border with Afghanistan, as reported by the Meduza agency.
During a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, the Russian president confirmed his readiness to provide necessary aid to Tajikistan both bilaterally and within the framework of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization).
The situation along the Tajik-Afghan border has become unstable following the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, with the Taliban extremist movement beginning to launch assaults on Afghan government forces.
Russia's 201st military base is located in Tajikistan, which is the largest Russian military installation outside its borders.
