Hayk Marutyan Personally Went to the Party Office and Resigned from Membership

‘Jamanak’ newspaper reports that new details have emerged regarding the relationship between Hayk Marutyan and the Civil Contract party. Specifically, according to our sources, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan submitted his resignation from the Civil Contract party on June 20, prior to the snap parliamentary elections.

Marutyan took this step after it was confirmed that elections would occur on June 20. At that time, he personally went to the party office and renounced his membership, further escalating the situation. Therefore, this application had been written before the elections but only became public knowledge at this moment.

Authorities were keen to show that there were no disagreements with Hayk Marutyan before the elections. This is why the Prime Minister's already-former advisor, currently the Chief of Staff, Arayik Harutyunyan expressed dissatisfaction with Marutyan after the elections.

As a result, the authorities decided to part ways with Hayk Marutyan after being re-elected, but so far, they have not succeeded in doing so. It should be noted that the city of Yerevan has been a failure for Pashinyan; here he received only 44 percent of the votes and actually lost to his opposition rivals in several polling places.
