Robbery Involves Violence Against 90-Year-Old Woman in Gegharkunik

On July 5, a masked and knife-wielding robber attacked a 90-year-old woman in the Gegharkunik region. At around 12:15 PM, the Martuni police department received a call from the Martuni Medical Center reporting that an ambulance crew had arrived at a residence in the village of Vaghashen, where they discovered the victim with torn earlobes.

According to shamshyan.com, police and investigators determined that the victim was Rosa K., a resident of the village. While medical personnel were attending to the elderly woman, police and investigators carried out necessary operational-investigative and investigative measures, thereby identifying the suspect. They determined that the masked, knife-wielding assailant was 44-year-old Adibek Melkonyan, also a resident of the village.

The suspect had entered the elderly woman's home, pulled her outside, assaulted her, and committed acts of violence against her. He then forcibly removed her gold earrings and necklace before inflicting knife wounds to her left forearm and fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Gegharkunik Regional Police and the Martuni police's criminal investigation and community police divisions swiftly identified probable locations of the suspect. They located and detained him in the village. A knife used in the crime and a medical mask were found near him. Additionally, they recovered the stolen necklace and one of the earrings from the elderly woman.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Martuni investigative division of the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Department under Article 175, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code.
