Erdogan Unilaterally Cancels Istanbul Convention: Details
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has unilaterally canceled the Istanbul Convention, which supports the fight against violence towards women.
The opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) is preparing to make a special statement regarding this decision. CHP representatives have refused to participate in the work of the "Commission for Investigating the Causes of Violence Against Women" attached to the Turkish Grand National Assembly and have established their own "shadow" committee for this purpose.
CHP deputies indicated that the reason for leaving the commission was the lack of dialogue and the criminal statements made by individuals invited by the state. Following the CHP, representatives from the 'İyi' party have also exited the commission.
