EURO 2020: Spain Defeated Croatia in Extra Time and Advances to Quarterfinals

In the round of 16 of the UEFA European Championship, Croatia faced Spain in Copenhagen. According to Armenpress, Spain had the upper hand from the initial minutes and throughout the first half. However, the Croats took the lead first, despite not having a single shot on target. A Spanish player, Pedro, inadvertently scored an own goal for the national team.

Spain managed to equalize in the 38th minute when Sarabia found himself in the right place at the right time. At the start of the second half, Spain turned their advantage into a goal in the 57th minute, with Aspilicueta making a mark. The 'Red Fury' maintained their positional superiority throughout the second half, and during one of their quick counterattacks, Ferran Torres seized the opportunity to score.

Following Croatia's missed opportunity, they launched an effort to recover the lost ground and were able to first reduce the deficit (Orsic registered the goal) and then equalize the score, with Pasalic also finding the net. The match moved to extra time, during which Spain sent two more goals into Croatia's net and secured the win: Croatia 3, Spain 5. Spain will face the winner of the France-Switzerland matchup in the quarterfinals.
