Is There a Future Without Water? Why 24-Hour Water Supply in Yerevan is Not Restored

In several neighborhoods of Yerevan that are supposed to have 24-hour water supply, there are regular shortages, mainly in the evenings. “Veolia Jur” attributed the water supply issues to the fact that the electricity distribution company has cut power to a large number of pumping stations, resulting in water supply being interrupted in many areas for several hours. The electricity company reported that the deviations recorded on their end are considered permissible under technical regulations and cannot cause disruptions in the water supply system.

On June 26, citizens continue to complain about the water supply. 168.am asked Murad Sargsyan, head of the public relations department at “Veolia Jur” LLC, about the reasons why the problem has still not been resolved: “It’s hot, the volume of water consumption has increased, and we are barely managing to keep up. This year, since the end of May, it has been almost 40 degrees. In previous years, such temperatures would occur from mid-July to mid-August. This is the peak consumption period in Armenia. This year, the peak in consumption began at the end of May, when suddenly there was also an issue arising from another system, disrupting the operation of our system for a considerable time. We are currently bringing the system back to order, we are utilising all available power sources, and we hope to stabilize the situation as soon as possible. One thing citizens should also remember is not to use drinking water for irrigation purposes, but yes, they do,” said Sargsyan.
