Large Fire Near Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex

For over 4 hours now, several firefighting teams from the Emergency Situations Ministry of Armenia have been battling a large fire that has erupted in the forest near the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex. According to reports from the scene by shamshyan.com, Emergency Situations Minister Andranik Piloyan, the director of the rescue service Armen Gasparyan, and the head of the Yerevan rescue department Arnold Harutyunyan have arrived at the site.

The firefighters are facing considerable challenges as they approach the fire sources from nearly 40 locations to first prevent the spread of the flames, and then extinguish the fire. Their efforts are further hampered by high winds that are complicating the situation. A group of firefighters is also using backpack sprayers to extinguish the fire in the crowns of trees.

The area affected by the fire is so large that firefighters are connecting several hoses to deliver water to the hot spots across a distance of 800-1500 meters. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
