Armenian Human Rights Defender Sends Recording of Conversation Between Azerbaijani President and Turkish First Lady to EU Leadership
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has sent a video recording of the conversation between the Azerbaijani President and the First Lady of Turkey regarding Armenian prisoners to the top leadership of the European Union through additional letters. Tatoyan announced this on his Facebook page.
“Today, I have sent additional letters with undeniable video evidence of the conversation between the Azerbaijani President and the First Lady of Turkey to the top leadership of the European Union, including 1) the President of the European Council, 2) the President of the European Commission, and 3) the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. The video serves as proof that all Armenian prisoners are being held in Azerbaijan as hostages for political bargaining and trade,” Tatoyan wrote.
He emphasized that all trials against the prisoners are fabricated and that the detentions constitute prohibited punishment. In the letters, he demonstrates how Azerbaijani authorities mislead the international community, including the EU.
The letters sent today are based on the alerts from the prisoners' families and the findings of our investigations, which have highlighted the suffering inflicted upon them by Azerbaijani authorities. Particularly noted are the Azerbaijani authorities' policy of hatred towards Armenians, as well as the political exploitation related to the return of prisoners, which has impacted the humanitarian experiences of Armenian society and especially those families.
Using factual references, the letters raised the issue of the immediate return of Armenian prisoners as an international obligation that must be implemented unconditionally,” Tatoyan stated.
