Accept This Statement as Another Warning: Mayor Marutyan Addresses Citizens Constructing Illegal Structures

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan has made a post on his Facebook page: “I am addressing the citizens who have constructed illegal buildings, including stalls, in violation of public interest in Yerevan. You are aware that we have been continuously dismantling these illegal structures in the past, and we are now intensively continuing this work.

During these operations, those who have carried out illegal constructions or their representatives sometimes request our employees to give them time to 'demolish their own' illegal structures. In this regard, I would like to clarify the following:

a) The initiators of illegal structures should have been aware from the outset that they were acting unlawfully; thus, they had the time and opportunity to prevent or eliminate the illegality since the moment they initiated these constructions.

b) Please accept this statement as yet another warning. We are providing you with one more opportunity to demolish these illegal structures at your earliest convenience. When the city hall arrives to dismantle your illegal structure, you will no longer have time.

The Yerevan municipality is resolute in its actions. We will consistently pursue all illegal constructions built in gross violation of public interest.”
