Families of Prisoners of War Suspend Sit-In Based on Agreement with Pashinyan

The families of prisoners of war, who have been holding a sit-in in front of the Armenian government since the evening of June 23, met again on June 24 with the acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. This was reported by the 'Unity' initiative, which indicated that following an agreement with Pashinyan, it was decided to suspend the sit-in on the condition that the government implements certain actions within a specified timeframe.

Tigran Ambardaryan, brother of captured Melz Ambardaryan and participant of the sit-in, stated on his Facebook page regarding this: 'I am currently suspending the sit-in for the following reason. Today we were invited inside by the government and met with government representatives. They listened to us and we discussed the conditions we proposed. These are:

  1. Create a temporary commission that must maintain constant direct contact with the families of prisoners of war (they promised to establish this by tomorrow, June 25, 2021).
  2. As a result of our discussions, we agreed to give the government additional time to continue its efforts and to inform us about the progress made soon.

If all discussed conditions and demands are not met by mid-July, I will resume the sit-in and raise broader protests with my friends.'
