Elections Complied with Legislation, Voter Rights Respected: OSCE on Elections

The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has stated that the elections held in Armenia on June 20 were competitive, according to RIA Novosti.

"The elections in Armenia generally complied with legislation, and voter rights were respected," the statement reads.

It is noteworthy that the Central Electoral Commission has published the preliminary results from all 2008 polling stations, according to which the leading party is Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party with nearly 53.92% of the votes.

The results of the early parliamentary elections will see three political forces in the new parliament: the Civil Contract, the Armenia Alliance, and the Honorary Alliance. The Honorary Alliance did not pass the threshold and will be represented in the parliament by legal means.

The mandates will be distributed as follows: Civil Contract - 71 mandates, Armenia Alliance - 29 mandates, Honorary Alliance - 7 mandates. Out of the four mandates allocated to the largest national minorities, three go to the Civil Contract, and one to the Armenia Alliance. Consequently, the mandates for the Armenia Alliance will become 27.

Additionally, the Armenia Alliance receives two extra mandates to ensure compliance with constitutional requirements, as the opposition's presence in the parliament must be no less than one-third.
