319 Reports Filed on Alleged Electoral Crimes
The working group operating within the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has summarized the results of reports received regarding alleged electoral crimes during the voting day of the extraordinary parliamentary elections held on June 20, from 08:00 to 20:00. This information was shared in a statement by the Prosecutor General's Office.
During the specified period, a total of 319 reports and alerts were formally registered and preliminarily examined, including 68 from media publications, 127 from individuals (including reports received via the Prosecutor General's hotlines), 17 from social media posts by citizens, and 107 operational data received from police reports.
Of the received reports and alerts:
- 79 pertain to hindering the exercise of voting rights (Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Armenia)
- 7 concern acts of violence in polling centers or their adjacent areas (Article 149.2 of the Criminal Code)
- 89 relate to voting multiple times or on behalf of another person (Article 153 of the Criminal Code)
- 46 involve violations of the secrecy of voting (Article 154 of the Criminal Code)
- 60 relate to bribery in elections (Part 2 of Article 154.2 of the Criminal Code)
- 6 concern obstructing a voter’s free will (Article 149.1 of the Criminal Code)
- 32 relate to other electoral crimes not classified above.
A total of 169 reports concerning alleged electoral violations, which were abstract and general in nature, were forwarded to the Police of Armenia for necessary verification actions.
Out of the 319 total reports, 150 have been sent to investigation or pre-trial bodies in accordance with Articles 180-181 of the Criminal Procedure Code for material preparation. Investigations have been initiated on 6 of these reports, which pertain to various articles of the Criminal Code, including:
- 1 under Part 1 of Article 154.2
- 4 under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 154.9
- 2 under Sections 1 and 2 of Article 154.2
- 1 under Part 1 of Article 154
- 1 under Part 2 of Article 154.1
- 1 under Article 154.4
Preliminary investigations are ongoing in these criminal cases, and information regarding the resolved offenses, outcomes of the investigations, disclosures made by law enforcement, and prosecutions will be provided later.
The Prosecutor General's Office will also soon present the results of extensive activities carried out based on the reports and alerts received throughout the entire electoral process.
