Zakharova Comments on Erdoğan's Visit to Shushi
We consider it inappropriate to mix issues related to Nagorno-Karabakh with topics concerning Azerbaijan's bilateral relations with third countries. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the Turkish president's visit to the occupied Armenian city of Shushi.
“From this perspective, we view the most recent high-level interactions between Azerbaijan and Turkey. We proceed from the assumption that bilateral ties in the region, including military aspects, should not be constructed against other states. We firmly support actions aimed at establishing dialogue between Yerevan and Baku, as well as between Yerevan and Ankara. Cooperation in the South Caucasus should develop on the basis of principles of friendship, taking into account and balancing the interests of all countries in the region,” she said.
“Regarding the statements made, considering the ongoing processes in the region and the efforts aimed at reaching agreements among the parties and steering them towards peace, all statements in this regard should work towards one goal—stability, peaceful development, restoration of connections, and alignment with the interests of peaceful inhabitants in the region,” Zakharova added.
