Tension in the Domestic Political Atmosphere, Says Armen Sarkissian

The President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, received a delegation from the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, led by Vice-President Margareta Cederfeldt, which is in Armenia to carry out an observation mission for the snap parliamentary elections taking place on June 20.

President Sarkissian highly appreciated the rapid response of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly to monitor the upcoming elections on June 20. Members of the observer delegation presented their mission's mandate and observations regarding the electoral process to the President.

Noting that the pre-election campaign has reached its peak and that there is tension in the domestic political atmosphere, the President emphasized that political parties and alliances participating in the elections must demonstrate maximum responsibility, restraint, and tolerance.

Highlighting the importance of social cohesion and state stability, President Sarkissian deemed calls for hatred or hostility, especially those involving violence and threats, as unacceptable. He stated that political forces and figures should refrain from such behavior.

The interlocutors expressed their expectation for fair, free, and transparent elections.
