Red Berets Invade Armenia's 'Hayastan' Alliance Headquarters; Arrests Reported

The Election Monitoring Committee reports that Red Berets of the police force invaded the headquarters of the 'Hayastan' alliance near a gathering site during the campaign of Nikol Pashinyan, the prime ministerial candidate from the 'Civil Contract' party, in Yeghegnadzor.

They demanded that individuals refrain from filming Pashinyan's sparsely attended rally and insisted that those standing at the entrance of the headquarters enter the building.

Five civilians who refused to comply with the illegal and unfounded demands were taken into custody on the grounds of 'not adhering to a lawful order' from the police.

The Election Monitoring Committee notes that the actions of the police in Armenia clearly pursued political objectives and had no relation to the legal functions of that body.
