Police Officer Disarms 28-Year-Old US Citizen Holding Gun to Another's Head After Accident
According to SHAMSHYAN.com, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Kotayk region on June 16. At approximately 21:40, the Kotayk police department received a report about an armed citizen disturbing the public in the Chāyni bends.
As reported by photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group of the Kotayk police, led by an investigator from the investigative department, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they learned from 44-year-old Arsen S. that earlier that day, around 21:20, an accident had occurred on the Yerevan-Sevan highway, after which the driver of a BMW tried to flee the scene. During the intervention, Arsen inserted his head into the BMW, where a man inside the vehicle pointed a gun to his head. Subsequently, another citizen managed to disarm the armed individual after the BMW reportedly struck him.
It was revealed that the driver of the BMW was a 28-year-old American citizen, M. Petern, while the citizen who disarmed him was Vahe Harutyunyan, a former officer of the Armenian police force currently working in the investigation department of the road police in Gyumri.
According to G. Shamshyan's information, the investigation into this incident is being handled by investigator Grigoryan of the Kotayk police department, while a separate investigation regarding the accident is being conducted by senior investigator Mayis Badoyan from the 3rd platoon of the 2nd police battalion of the road police.
