Armenian Weightlifters to Compete in the Olympic Games
The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has officially informed the Armenian National Olympic Committee about the confirmation of Armenian athletes Isabella Yalyan (59 kg) and Simon Martirosyan (109 kg) participation in the Tokyo Olympic Games. This was reported by the official website of the Armenian Olympic Committee.
It is noteworthy that the top 14 athletes from each weight category in the world ranking can qualify for the Olympic Games in weightlifting. Based on this, other Armenian athletes were also vying for the Olympic spots, including Hakob Mkrtchyan (96 kg), Gor Minasian (+109 kg), and Tatev Hakobyan (89 kg). However, due to more than 20 positive doping tests among Armenian weightlifters in the last 10 years, Armenia has been allocated only one spot each for men's and women's competitions. The coaching staff has decided to send Simon Martirosyan and Isabella Yalyan to Tokyo.
