On June 16, a tragic car accident occurred in the Gegharkunik region. Around 5:30 AM, vehicles driven by Sergey Nikoghosyan, a 36-year-old resident of Tsovagyugh, and Arthur Mkrtchyan, a 28-year-old resident of Tavush, collided on a 3.5 km stretch of the Tsovagyugh-Shorzha-Vardenis highway.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the Ford Transit flipped over as a result of the collision, and both drivers were transported to the ‘Sevan’ medical center with injuries.
Responding to the scene were officers from the 1st platoon of the 4th battalion of the second police service group, led by Battalion Commander Edgar Susliyane and Platoon Commander Vachagan Voskanyan.
Senior investigator Karen Petrosyan from the same platoon oversaw the investigative work at the scene, where materials are being prepared regarding the incident.
An operational group from the Sevan police department also arrived on site, headed by department chief Suren Janikyan. Hours later, the Sevan police received a call from the medical center reporting that the injured, S. Nikoghosyan, had died, prompting investigator K. Petrosyan to launch a criminal case under Article 242, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
