Court Proceedings in Franklin Gonzalez Case Conclude; Verdict to Be Announced Tomorrow

The trial against Narek Sargsyan, the son of Sashik Sargsyan, is approaching its conclusion. The court has been examining the case in expedited mode and will announce its verdict tomorrow, June 16.

During today’s session, the prosecuting attorney requested a 7-year prison sentence for Narek Sargsyan. The court has retired to the deliberation room to make a decision.

Narek Sargsyan, who has been wanted under a criminal case investigated by the RA NSS since June 2018, was extradited to Armenia on December 21, 2019, and subsequently arrested. He had been hiding in the Czech Republic under the alias Franklin Gonzalez. The internationally wanted Sargsyan was located and arrested on December 6, 2018, in Prague.

He is accused of illegally acquiring, selling, storing, transporting, or carrying weapons, military ammunition, explosive materials, or explosive devices, and for illegal circulation of drugs, psychotropic substances (narcotic substances), or their precursors with the intent to produce or illegally trade them.

The criminal case against Narek Sargsyan was sent to the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan with an indictment on October 9, 2020.
