I Have Expressed Willingness to Assist Our NSS: Ararat Mirzoyan on Allegations of Being a Turkish Agent
Ararat Mirzoyan, the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, addressed the allegations made by former Armenian ambassador to the Holy See, Mikael Minasian, regarding claims that Mirzoyan is a Turkish agent, in an interview with Azatutyun Radio. Tert.am reports this news.
When asked if he had indeed signed the document released by Minasian, Mirzoyan confirmed, stating, “The NSS of Armenia approached me as a PhD candidate and researcher of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute, and as an employee of the public-political documents department of the National Archives of Armenia, as a historian who was writing articles about the genocide and its various fundamental issues during that period, including in foreign periodicals. They requested my assistance on this agenda in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.”
He continued, “This is all there is to it. Regardless of my attitude towards the political powers of the day, as a patriotic individual and a professional, I expressed my willingness to assist our security service specifically on this issue.” He added, “This document indeed exists, regarding the remaining part, of course, it is a delirious delusion, and that person should still answer for that awful accusation that tarnishes my good reputation.” Mirzoyan noted that the allegations stemmed from the transition period at the end of Robert Kocharian’s presidency and the start of Serge Sargsyan’s presidency.
It is worth noting that Mikael Minasian, the former ambassador to the Holy See, claimed that Ararat Mirzoyan was a special agent for Turkey and later became a double agent for the NSS of Armenia, and he published a document purportedly signed by Mirzoyan, which stated, “I am obligated to keep confidential any information that may contain state and national secrets.”
