12 Children Aged 1-4 Transferred to the National Center for Infectious Diseases
On June 12-13, 12 children aged 1-4 with symptoms characteristic of intestinal infection (general weakness, vomiting, diarrhea) were transferred from the Martuni Medical Center to the National Center for Infectious Diseases. This information was provided by the Ministry of Health.
As a result of epidemiological investigation, on June 13, 4 more patients showing similar symptoms were identified, including 3 children and 1 adult, all of whom are already at home with mild disease progression.
During the same period, an epidemiological investigation conducted at the Martuni Medical Center resulted in the collection of 12 water samples and 30 washings aimed at pathogenic flora.
Samples were taken from 9 medical staff for staphylococcal and bacterial contamination testing, and from 7 children receiving treatment in the department and 1 caregiver for bacterial contamination samples.
In two patients hospitalized at the National Center for Infectious Diseases, the pathogen of nosocomial infection, Clostridium difficile, was identified, and in one of the samples, the antigen of this pathogen was also found. The samples have been sent to the Reference Laboratory Center of the State Health Inspectorate, where Clostridium difficile has been confirmed.
Currently, efforts are underway to identify the source of the nosocomial infection transmission, whether it is waterborne or of contact origin.
