Captives Are Vulnerable: Photographing Them in Groups Violates Humanitarian Norms, Says Avetik Ishkhanyan

Human rights defender Avetik Ishkhanyan wrote on his Facebook page that he was immensely pleased to learn that 15 of our captives are returning home from the Azerbaijani hell. He hopes that all captives will return soon. However, he expressed concerns about the publication of their photographs.

“First of all, who took their photos? Were they taken by Azerbaijanis or by the Armenian side? If it's the Azerbaijanis, there's nothing you can do about it. But if it’s the Armenian side that took or published these photos, then questions arise. The captives are vulnerable, perhaps very vulnerable. To photograph them without their consent, especially in groups, and distribute those images is a blatant violation of basic ethics and humanitarian norms. It is unacceptable,” he emphasized.

He added,
