BHK Candidate Accused of Bribery Arrested
The court has approved the motion to detain A. A., a representative of one of the parties participating in the snap parliamentary elections, as a measure of restraint. This was reported in response to a query by Armenpress from the Special Investigation Service.
Based on the sufficient collection of evidence in a criminal case being investigated by the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia, A. A. has been charged under parts 1 and 2 of Article 154.2 of the RA Criminal Code for the act of giving and receiving electoral bribes. On June 9, 2021, he allegedly provided food items valued at 7,000 AMD to several voters in the Tavush region to vote in favor of his party in the upcoming snap parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20, 2021.
According to the charges, A. A., as a candidate in his party's list and coordinating the work of the party's regional office in the Tavush area, collaborated with the office's secretary, S. Z., to distribute these bribes according to a pre-prepared list.
The investigator of the Special Investigation Service decided to submit a motion to the general jurisdiction court for A. A.'s detention as a measure of restraint. The pre-trial investigation continues.
