Fully Cease Exploiting Issues of Prisoner Returns – Ombudsman

The Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, has emphasized that it is unacceptable to exploit the issues surrounding the return of prisoners illegally held in Azerbaijan during the electoral campaign, particularly when discussing the willingness to exchange prisoners with others.

In a statement, the Human Rights Defender noted, "It is evident that such actions cannot occur, and the exploitation of these issues only heightens tension within the country and complicates the process of returning prisoners. In this manner, the Azerbaijani authorities effectively raise the 'price' of returning prisoners. This represents a blatant disregard for the prisoners, their families, and their emotions."

Thus, the Human Rights Defender calls on all parties to completely cease exploiting the issues related to the return of prisoners. "Instead of complicating the process with exploitation, genuine efforts must be made to ensure the return of our compatriots who are unlawfully held in Azerbaijan," he added.
